A 10-year-old boy died after becoming ill at Auchenharvie Leisure Centre in Stevenston.
The boy took unwell within the facility at around 6.20pm on Friday, August 4.
He was taken to Crosshouse Hospital but died shortly afterwards. Police are treating the boy's death as unexplained.
A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "Emergency services attended and the boy was taken to Crosshouse Hospital where he died a short time later.
"A post mortem examination will take place in due course to establish the exact cause of death, which officers are treating as unexplained at this time. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."
