THE popular playpark which was ripped up by North Ayrshire Council has been replaced - with goalposts.
The park, which was situated just off Stanley Road in the town was one of a number of parks which were taken out of commission in a money-saving exercise by the council.
But locals are still hopeful that the park could make a return and a committee has been set up to ensure that everything that can be done will be in a bid to bring back the much loved park.
Spearheaded by Councillor Jim Montgomerie, the committee is formed of locals and they are set to meet for the first time to discuss their options going forward and what will be the best options for funding and possible replacements. The new goalposts have been erected after consultation with residents.
A North Ayrshire Council spokesperson said: “The goalposts were put in place following requests from local residents. Consideration was also given to picnic benches and seating but following consultation it was decided goalposts would be the preferred option.”
