SPAR Saltcoats, owned and operated by CJ Lang and Son Limited has recently donated a generous £1000 to North Ayrshire Forum on Disability.

The money was raised through the sale of single use carrier bags, which cost customers 5p per bag.

The North Ayrshire Forum on Disability is a voluntary organisation formed in 1996. They work closely with the elderly, people with disabilities and people with mental health issues providing information and support. They also run a small social group where people meet for lunch and games afternoons helping them feel less isolated and lonely.

The money donated will be split it between the charities support groups – a Craft Group, a Women’s Group and a Social Outings Group. This funding will assist with materials, accessible transport for those who require assistance with travel and assist with the charities monthly supportive social outing to the local bowling alley. The charity also plans to spend some of the money donated to organise a Christmas Outing for people with disabilities in December. Many of the people with disabilities will look forward to coming together for this and for some, it may be the only Christmas event with other people that they will attend!

Betty Martin, Chairperson of North Ayrshire Forum on Disability Said: “This funding will make a huge difference to our small local charity and will enable us to organise various activities over the next few months for older people with disabilities. The North Ayrshire Forum on Disability members would like to thank the local SPAR staff in Saltcoats for thinking about us. The donation means a great deal for us and our service users in the local area.”

David Cunningham area manager for SPAR Saltcoats said: “We are delighted to be given the opportunity to support North Ayrshire Forum on Disability and the marvellous work that they do within the local community.”
