A 29-YEAR-OLD anaesthetist has died while on duty at Crosshouse Hospital.
John McKenna was found by shocked work colleagues in a staff changing room.
Police described the death as unexplained, although it is not thought to be suspicious.
Mr McKenna married his wife Heather two years ago in Ayrshire.
Mrs McKenna, aged 27, is also employed in the medical profession and the couple stayed in West Lothian.
HR director at NHS Ayrshire and Arran, Patricia Leiser, said: “We are aware of an incident involving a member of staff which took place at University Hospital Crosshouse.
“We are assisting police with their investigations. It wouldn’t be appropriate to comment further while these are ongoing.
A police spokeswoman added: "Around 11.45pm on Monday, August 7, it was reported the body of a 29-year-old man was found in a changing room at Crosshouse Hospital.
“Enquiries are ongoing. The death is being treated as unexplained.
“A post-mortem will be carried out in due course to establish the exact circumstances of the death.”
