A SOCIAL club for people over 50 is set for an exciting new timetable after the summer.

The Three Towns Opportunities in Retirement (OIR) starts back next month, with its first meeting on Thursday, September 7 at 12.45pm in Ardrossan Civic Centre for registration and afternoon tea. You don’t have to be retired to join, just over 50 and local to the area.

Wendy Sneider of the Three Towns OIR gave a run-down on what’s on offer: “Chance to Dance on a Monday morning has proved so popular we now have two sessions - 10am and 11.15am.

“Walking on a Wednesday continues throughout the year with an interesting and varied programme to suit various levels of fitness and interest. We are a very sociable group.

“Walking football was added last year and will continue this year. We were very fortunate to receive a grant from North Ayrshire Council under their Participatory Budgeting umbrella for reducing isolation and improving health and wellbeing. This grant is very welcome in helping to keep activity fees acceptable to all.

“Likewise, line dancing was also very grateful to receive a similar grant which again is helping to keep the sessions accessible to all by keeping weekly fees manageable.

“Badminton and keep fit flourish, as does aqua aerobics on a Tuesday afternoon at Harvies.

“If physical exercise isn’t your thing then we have dominoes, scrabble and a knit and natter group on Thursdays. Or if you want to introduce a new craft please come along.

“Our monthly meeting is normally the first Thursday of the month when we have a speaker, followed by a cup of tea. Theatre outings, summer outing and possible holidays are all part of the mix.”

Membership for the group is £3, although activity fees apply. For more information, visit www.threetownsoir.btck.co.uk.
