A MUM and her young son were forced to hide in a shop to get away from an abusive drunk man.

Richard Ferla was standing at a bus stop on Crookston Road on May 6 this year, where the mum and child were waiting for a bus.

The woman asked her son, aged 8, to move his bag to be polite and let Ferla, 45, of Whiteachers Park, South Nitshill, sit down.

After this, he looked in his pocket and accused the child of stealing his mobile phone.

He became abusive to the pair shouting comments including “f*****g junkie” and “black beast” to the child, who was said to be of mixed descent.

In a bid to get away from Ferla, they attempted to get on a bus, but he stopped them so instead ran into One Stop Shop nearby.

Ferla followed them there and stood outside the shop for an hour waiting for them to come out.

Police were eventually called and Ferla was cautioned and charged but made no reply.

He continued to made derogatory comments about the victims while being detained by police.

Ferla appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court for sentencing after pleading guilty to incident.

Sheriff Findlay described the offence as “nasty” and ordered Fena to undergo 160 hours of unpaid work and to be under the supervision of the social work department for the period of one year.
