A FREE evening of lantern making sessions, circus workshops and a glowing procession is to take place this week in celebration of Ardrossan Castle being named one of Scotland’s Hidden Gems.

The historic landmark was voted within the top six of the country’s Hidden Gems as part of Scotland’s Year of History Heritage and Archaeology.

Glow to the Castle is on Friday, September 22 and will celebrate the town’s victory with an evening of free activities and entertainment.

Helen Brown from Ardrossan Castle Heritage Society said: “Ardrossan Castle Heritage Society would like to thank everyone for voting, digit2017 for organising it and all our volunteers.

“We hope you enjoy this Glowtastic event. Dress up reflective or neon stuff, bring wands or light swords, enjoy the light show on the castle and glow with us.”

Anyone wishing to participate in the procession should assemble from 8pm at the Castle Hill car park. The parade will begin at 8.30pm and participants and spectators are encouraged to wear or bring their own items of ‘glow’ with them, such as facepaint and glow sticks. No booking is required for the procession.

Lantern making and circus activities will run from 5.30- 8pm at the Civic Centre and the Ardrossan Church of the Nazarene. The sessions are suitable for all ages and free tickets are available through Eventbrite.
