A 46-year-old man has dodged a jail term after admitting to abusive behaviour towards a woman which resulted in her injury.

Henry Currie had pled guilty to one charge of Assault to Injury at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court last month but sentence was deferred for reports.

He was bailed and returned to the court last week for sentencing. Currie assaulted the woman at his home in Mayfield Road in Saltcoats on August 9.

He punched her on the head, seized her by the hair, pulled her hair, seized her by the clothing causing it to tear, and threw a phone at her which struck her on the head to her injury.

Currie was ordered to carry out 130 hours of unpaid work as an alternative to prison.
