A TEENAGER had a lucky escape after being hit by a car at the weekend.

The 15-year-old girl was crossing Pennyburn Road in Kilwinning when she was knocked down at around 8.45pm on Friday night.

The girl had been visiting the fairground in Kilwinning with friends when their excitement turned to horror when she was thrown into the air by the car in the shocking smash.

The teen was rushed to hospital but miraculously escaped any serious injury.

The driver of the car was not charged.

A spokesman for Irvine Police said: “We can confirm that a 15-year-old girl was hit by a car on Pennyburn Road in Kilwinning where she had been attending the fairground with friends on Friday, September 22.

“Police attended the scene near to Kilwinning Sports Club at around 8.45pm and as a result of the accident the teenager was taken to Crosshouse Hospital where she was kept in overnight for observation.

“The girl was not injured as a result of the accident and no action was taken against the driver.”
