A STEVENSTON Bowling Club was left reeling over the weekend as callous thieves broke in to their clubhouse TWICE.

Ardeer Recreation Bowls Club had their clubhouse broken into overnight on Saturday and Sunday into Monday with substantial damage being caused as well as the theft of cash, alcohol from their bar and wheelie bins too.

Police confirmed that they were making enquiries into the incidents but had not made any arrests at the time of going to press.

Tom McNairn, Treasurer of the club, told the Herald: “They made an attempt on Saturday and we think they have decided to come back on Sunday with a bigger lever. The safe was broken into and got between £1,000 and £1,500.”

As you can see from our photos, the robbers made their way in to the bar to get to the drink.

Tom added: “It’s going to cost a fair bit to sort.

“We have smashed doors, broken roller shutters, loads of alcohol stolen and they have also stolen two wheelie bins, which is what we think they used to transport the stuff.

“I just hope we catch them.”

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “We are investigating two incidents of housebreaking at Ardeer Recreation Bowls Club. The first took place around 2.40am on Sunday and the second overnight on Sunday into Monday.

“A four-figure sum of money was taken and enquiries are continuing. Anyone with any information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101."
