FILM crews took over the Ayrshire Coast this week with two big budget shows being filmed in North Ayrshire.

Shots for the upcoming Robert The Bruce epic ‘Outlaw King’ have been filmed at Portencross and Ardrossan Castles and a new Christmas BBC drama starring David Walliams has been shooting in Hunterston Estate near Largs.

Outlaw King, which is a Netflix original, will see Hollywood star Chris Pine in the lead role and has been filming across various locations in Scotland.

The film has been written and will be directed by Scottish film director David Mackenzie, known for directing Hell or High Water.

Around 300 extras gathered in the local area and our photographs show the scene at Portencross as filming took place this week.

Other locations in Scotland include Dunfermline Abbey, an estate in Linlithgow and at Mugdock Castle, near Glasgow.
