A NEW community garden for the residents of the Hayocks in Stevenston was recently opened.

The land, which was redeveloped by the Hayocks Tenants and Residents Association, is next to Hayocks Hall and was opened after 18 months of hard work.

Karen Frew from the Association said: “The group decided to redevelop the piece of land around the Hayocks Hall so that anyone using the hall could go outside into a nicer area than it was as it was overgrown.

“It took around 18 months to complete and the group received funding for North Ayrshire Venture Trust, nurturing Excellence in Communities, Stalled Spaces, Margie Moffat Fund and the Common Good Fund.

“The group are delighted with the outcome but are still look at doing a few improvements to it.”

SNP Cllr Davina McTiernan was there on the day to officially open the new area and was joined by other elected members, including MP Patricia Gibson and MSP Kenneth Gibson.

The sun was shining as the kids and big kids enjoyed the first day in their new community space./
