LAST week saw a very successful Jobs Fair take place in Ardrossan with over 300 people attending the Civic Centre.

Organised by the DWP, the fair went ahead despite the bad weather and this did not stop potential employees and employers heading out in their droves.

No fewer than 47 employers and support organisations were there on the day and they covered a range of sectors including Care, Retail, Hospitality and Construction.

Tom Gilligan from the DWP who helped organised the event, said: “The early feedback from those in attendance was on the whole positive - ‘delighted to see so many employers with genuine vacancies’, ‘good to see some different employers form previous Jobs Fairs'.

“The feedback from employers was also mainly positive, and that they were ‘impressed with the quality of candidates in attendance with a genuine interest in their vacancies’, ‘good to see candidates being supported by their Jobcentre Work Coaches’.

“We took the opportunity before the doors opened to the Job Seeker to provide information to the employers.

“Skills Development Scotland updated them on about Modern Apprentices and Adopt and An apprentice. Jobcentre Plus provided an update on Universal Credit Full Service which rolls out in North Ayrshire in November 2017 and how this supports people looking for and moving into work, as well as information about the Disability Confident initiative.

“North Ayrshire Council also provided an update to employers about their Wage Subsidy.

“All employers were advised that if they are looking for more information they should contact the relevant organisation.”
