NORTH Ayrshire Council will now become a ‘Carer Positive’ council for its employees following unanimous acceptance of an SNP motion from SNP Councillor Anthea Dickson at last week’s full council meeting.
The motion asked that the council pursue accreditation as a Carer Positive employer in recognition of the important role that many council employees play in being carers for family members.
Councillor Dickson, SNP Shadow Cabinet member for Health and Social Care and Carers Advisory Group chair, said: “As 10 per cent of the population of Scotland act as an unpaid carer for someone, it is essential that employers are flexible to assist people to care for loved ones in poor health.”
