The rain didn’t deter dedicated volunteers from taking part in a clean-up of Ardeer Beach.

Around 20 people, including members of the community and elected members, turned out for the litter pick.

Councillor Davina McTiernan, who helped organise the event, said: “There was a tremendous amount of rubbish which was picked up.

“It was spectacular that people turned out with the weather being so bad. The rain was just constant Everybody got soaked through really badly.

“There were a lot of young people there which was excellent. A lot of young families brought their kids along and a lot of people who live in the area came along as well and helped.”

Patricia Gibson, MP for Ayrshire and Arran, added: “The weather was miserably wet but it did not dampen our spirits as we were well equipped for the rain.

“Several bags of litter were filled

“These litter picks are excellent community initiatives to keep our towns clean and free from litter.”
