THE skies of Saltcoats will be lit up once again this year with the annual firework display set to take place at the end of the month.

And a lucky Saltcoats schoolgirls will be pressing the button which starts the spectacular family show.

Kirsty Allison, who is a pupil at Ardeer Primary School was chosen by Saltcoats Councillor Jim Montgomerie, the organiser of the fireworks, to set them off for 2017.

Jim said: “Kirsty is a pupil at Ardeer primary. I know her Dad well and she plays football for the school team as well as training in mma and she will also be joining my gym when it opens.”

Last year, the Herald teamed up with local brothers David and Tommy Morrison who live streamed the show through our Facebook page for those unable to make it along on the night and this year will be the same.

Fresh from the live streaming of the Ardrossan Music Experience’s ‘Sounds on the sand’ event, the duo will showcase the extravaganza live on our page.

Jim added: “The fireworks is a true community event bringing together, not only the people of Saltcoats but from all over. It will be on Facebook live again for everyone to see who has a connection with this Town. Last year the viewing figures were phenomenal.

“I remember watching it live in the van and it was crazy where people were watching it from, all over the world.

“I am praying for a dry night and I hope you all enjoy.”

The display will take place this year on Sunday, October 29.

Fairground attractions and food and drink stalls will be in place at the car park at the Braes from 5.30pm with the show itself starting at 7.30pm
