WHEN Archaeology Scotland contacted Ardrossan Castle Heritage Society for cooperation in holding its annual general meeting in Ardrossan, the Society was delighted to be of assistance.
Archaeology is the study of the human past through its material remains. Archaeology Scotland aims to inspire communities, amateurs and professionals to discover, explore and enjoy Scotland’s heritage.
The Civic Centre was the venue for the initial gathering. Kevin Grant of Historic Environment Scotland - and a native of Ardrossan - gave a presentation on ‘The Streaming Ocean of the Roadways’ and Tessa Till of Archaeology Scotland spoke about charitable legacies.
George McGrattan presented The History, Work and Achievements of Ardrossan Castle Heritage Society before Alison Montgomery called forward young volunteers to be given Heritage Hero Awards.
After lunch, participants were given a guided tour of the Castle and Church on the Castle Hill. Beverley Ballin Smith, President of Archaeology Scotland expressed appreciation to the Heritage Society for its hospitality.
