18 BAGS of rubbish were collected on Saturday from Ardrossan South Beach when the Surfer’s Against Sewage took part in a beach clean.

Seven volunteers took part with five of them making the journey to Ardrossan from Glasgow, and collected 18 bags of rubbish and a scooter in three hours.

Jacqueline Bruce, one of the team who took part, said: “The organiser of this particular Beach Clean is a Marine Biology student and she introduced us to nurdles - of which there were loads! Very sad. Lots of old cotton bud plastic too from being dumped in toilets, and old balloons on string.
