POLICE are appealing for information after two men were seriously assaulted in Stevenston on Sunday night.

Around 10.30pm, a 33-year-old man was attacked in Hayocks Road by two men armed with weapons.

His 29-year-old male neighbour noticed what was happening and came out to assist the victim and was also assaulted by the men.

The suspects then made off from the scene.

Both men are described as being in their 20s. One man is further described as heavy and was wearing a white hooded top.

Emergency services were called and the victims were taken to Crosshouse Hospital for treatment.

The 33-year-old man remains in hospital where medical staff described his condition as stable.

The 29-year-old man was treated for a serious head injury and has since been released.

Detective Inspector Mick Carr from Saltcoats CID said: “This was a violent attack which left two men badly injured and extensive enquiries are underway to trace the people responsible.

“I would appeal to anyone who was in the Hayocks Road area last night around 2230 hours and witnessed a disturbance or anything suspicious to please get in touch.
