A THREE Towns dad is having his hobby honoured - with a gallery of his work from the last 70 years.

The Jimmy Carson Collection looks at seven decades worth of photographs from 89-year-old Jimmy, who will turn 90 in February, highlighting his love for the local area and his family.

He was brought up in Saltcoats and married Annie Kelly, working as a telephone engineer took up his working life but his hobby since his teenage years has always been amateur photography.

Jimmy has taken thousands of photos over the years ranging from local scenes, events and family portraits.

Jimmy also developed photos in his ‘garden hut’, until the advent of colour which made the process more difficult! Jimmy has witnessed many changes over the decades and his love of photography together with his ‘keen’ eye has recorded some great photographic memories.

His collection reflects some of the changes and events in Ardrossan & Saltcoats that have taken place over the years, a few of which are on display.

When he retired, he turned his hand to video and he has made hundreds of short films, some of which have been shown locally.

Jimmy’s family said: “This small display has been set up to celebrate Jimmy’s photographs and videos and, as 2018 will be his 90th Birthday, acknowledge over 70 years of taking photographs and videos and let others see them. The selection we have chosen mainly concentrate on Ardrossan Harbour, North and South Shore and some, are just great photos!

“We hope you will enjoy this display and we welcome your comments.”

Thanks from the family go to Ardrossan Library staff for giving permission to display some of ‘Jimmy’s Collection’.
