THE Garnock Community Campus catering team have been busy dishing out tasty food over the festive season to primary school kids in North Ayrshire.

Led by Eileen Palmer, Senior Catering Supervisor, the team provide nutritious meals for kids throughout the locality as part of the holiday school meals service.

The initiative sees schools and community centres across the region open their doors over the Easter, Summer, October and Christmas holidays to allow school-aged children to get a hot, fulfilling lunch and a run around with their friends out with term time.

The meals are prepared centrally at Dalry Primary and dished out to participating locations across North Ayrshire.

Eileen, an Exceptional Employee of the Year finalist at North Ayrshire Achieves, said: “We’ve got a cracking team here at the Campus who work incredibly hard all-yearround.

“Many people don’t realise the extent of the work we do, from school meals to large scale catering for functions. We prepare, cook and serve food to a whole variety of customers.

“Everything we make is made from scratch – with not a packet mix in sight. And while that means our dishes may take a little more time to prepare, our customers can be sure that they are consuming high quality, fresh produce when they choose our food.

“There’s nothing more satisfying than reaching the end of the working day knowing that the huge operation has gone smoothly and that ourcustomers – whether that’s the nursery, primary or academy pupils and staff, KA Leisure users or older people at Gowanlea day service – are delighted with the food they’ve eaten.

“And while it’s a mammoth task, it’s one we all take in our stride and are really proud of.”

Pupils at Garnock Community Campus finished up for the Christmas holidays on Friday, December 22.
