P4 pupils at St Bridget’s Primary raised a fantastic £277.80 for North Ayrshire Foodbank - and the fundraiser was entirely the children’s idea.

The kids at the Kilbirnie school donated all the proceeds from their stall at the Christmas Fair to the local foodbank.

The children had wanted to raise money for the foodbank after a visit from the charity’s coordinator, Craig Crosthwaite.

Emma Carruthers, one of the P4 teachers, said: “As part of their Victorian topic, we were talking about those who are disadvantaged.

“We came up with different charities that are linked to the school and we thought of the foodbank. We invited Craig in to talk about the foodbank and what it does for the community.

“As a class, they came up with ideas to raise money. They made arts and crafts to be sold at the Christmas Fair. We also raffled off some prizes and had a lucky dip.

“The kids had a great time and we’re really pleased to have made a difference. It’s nice.”
