THE Magnum Figure Skating Club showed off their skills last week, with Herald photographer Charlie Gilmour there to capture the magic.

The club started off in the Magnum Leisure Centre in 1976 before moving to the Auchenharvie centre in 2011 when the Irvine ice rink closed.

The club has had a very successful run throughout its 40 year history producing some world class skaters, who have represented GB internationally.

Anne Marie from the club said: “We’re still going strong. Every year we do quite well with our skaters going to the British Championships which is a big event every year, with skaters part of the GBR squad internationally for the club

“We have around 70 members of the club and have about another 70 on our Learn to Skate programme.

“We’ll be holding our Magnum Open event on March 1- March 4 and that’s our biggest event on the calender, we’ve already had an unprecedented 300 entries and 400 is all we can take.”

During the club’s 40-year anniversary back in 2016 skaters voted on whether they wanted to change the club name. However the majority of members voted in favour of keeping the association with the Magnum.
