POLICE in Dalry are on the hunt after more than 60 street lights were damaged over a six week period between December and January.

The Locality Policing team based in the Garnock Valley are appealing for public assistance after the vandalisms were reported in Dalry.

Between December 6, 2017 and January 18, 2018 in excess of 60 street lights in the town have been vandalised, where the external inspection doors have been removed and electrical wiring within has been damaged making the lights inoperable.

PC Duffy of the Garnock Valley Locality Policing Team said: “Enquiries are ongoing into these incidents and officers are conducting additional patrols in the area. Around 13 streets have been affected and we are appealing for local residents to be vigilant and report suspicious activity to us.”

A North Ayrshire Council spokesperson added: “This is obviously having an impact on the resources of the council but, more importantly, on the safety of residents living or travelling through these communities. We would urge anyone with information to contact our partners at Police Scotland.”
