A Girvan driver got behind the wheel seven years into an eight year ban.
Gary Dorricot, of Montgomerie Street, drove a Subaru Impreza on December 28 last year at Old Street Garage, Girvan without a licence or insurance.
The 28-year-old appeared before Sheriff Desmond Leslie at Ayr Sheriff Court last week. The court heard how Dorricot was in his seventh year of an eight year driving ban
Depute Fiscal Jason Bell explained: “At 5.30pm police were in a marked police vehicle and stopped in the forecourt [of the garage].
“Dorricot noticed the police before driving off.”which was confirmed on CCTV
Dorricot’s solicitor, Glenn Davis, said: “My client was seen driving into the forecourt. He was driving while he was under an eight year ban.
“He has been disqualified since 2011 so it was coming to an end. Mr Dorricot had been working that day and was originally a passenger. But he took over so the driver could go and see his girlfriend.
“Mr Dorricot wanted to fill the jerry can with diesel, which at the time was a stupid decision. I have told him to be more careful.”
Dorricot has been fined £1,500 and has been disqualified for another two years.
