A MAN kicked the front door of Ayr’s Job Centre causing £1200 worth of damage after he was asked to leave.

James Japp of Whiteford, Girvan, admitted that he had recklessly damaged the main entrance last April at Wallacetoun House, John Street.

Depute Fiscal, Andrew Lazzarin, said: “Japp kicked the door causing damage to it which was caught on CCTV. The value of the damage was £1,200.”

Speaking on his behalf, defence solicitor, Mandy Stewart said: “I find it very hard to believe that the damage could cause that much. Mr Japp accepts he did kick the door. I have to dispute this.”

Sheriff Scott Pattison, said: “It must be a very expensive door. Is there anyone in court who you can ask about the damage?”

Mr Lazzarin replied: “The person who assessed the door is here today.”
The court adjourned to allow the defence to interview the person who had assessed the damage of the door. They reconvened a short time later.

Mr Lazzarin explained: “We have had the opportunity to discuss the matter with the security guard. Damage was caused to the hinge Money was required for the electronic opening system of the door.”

Ms Stewart said: “I was there when the security guard discussed this. Mr Japp attended the job centre because he had split up from his partner.

“He attended with a friend. Mr Japp threw an Irn Bru bottle to his friend who caught it and was asked to leave. Mr Japp asked to speak to a supervisor but as he left he kicked the door.

“Mr Japp has a very lengthy record but his last prison sentence was in December 2016. He is living with his partner who he has reconciled with.”
Japp has been fined £500 compensation to be paid towards DWP.
