In recognition of the important role they play in the workforce, North Ayrshire Council is rewarding five of its Modern Apprentices for their hard-work and dedication.

As part of Scottish Modern Apprenticeship Week, each director was asked to nominate a Modern Apprentice who is an ‘Outstanding Team Member’.

The five winners were Andrew Birrell, David Dunlop, Monica Taggart, Emma Affleck and Erin McLaughlin were presented with a certificate and a gift voucher from Chief Executive Elma Murray.

All of the winners started with the council in August 2017 after successfully completing their pre-employment apprenticeship training.

The pre-employment apprenticeship training has been running for two years and has been proven a successful and productive introduction to the working environment.

At the awards ceremony, Councillor Alex Gallagher, Cabinet Member for Economy, spoke about the council’s commitment to the Modern Apprenticeship Programme.

He said: “The theme for Scottish Modern Apprenticeship Week this year is ‘Apprenticeships are the Business’.

"This week recognises the important role businesses play in providing a skilled workforce for now and in the future.

“The council’s apprenticeship programme makes sure our young people are equipped with the right skills and work experience to develop their careers.

He added: “I’d like to take this opportunity to wish all our Modern Apprentices every success in their apprenticeship and future careers.”

The Modern Apprenticeships on offer with the council have expanded over the last

couple of years with opportunities for young people to learn over 25 different disciplines.
