LAST weekend saw the official opening of Kilbirnie Pictured, an exciting exhibition by artist Peter Finnegen.

The opening at The Studio and Gallery took place on Saturday, March 10. Around 20 of Peter’s paintings are displayed in the exhibition. T

hey feature buildings which have been ‘brought back to life’ within Kilbirnie, where the artist is currently based.

Some of the structures in Peter’s work are no longer standing and so the 76-year-old has worked from old photographs to resurrect the old landmarks.

He has also used his skill to revitalise current buildings that have become rundown.

Peter, a great-grandfather, said: “This exhibition is of Kilbirnie, all the old buildings. I bring them to life again because it’s a poor place. There’s a couple [of buildings] there that are not there anymore. Some of these buildings I’ve painted are old, they’re tired, and I bring them to life again. It’s nice to do, especially for the young ones.”

Kilbirnie Pictured will run Monday to Saturday, 2-5pm until March 31.
