BUDDING Andy Murrays will get the chance to hone their skills thanks to a new tennis boot camp this Easter.

Youngsters with an interest in tennis can head to Kilwinning Sports Club during the Easter Holidays.

The club will use the £1,500 funding it just received from North Ayrshire Council’s Participatory Budget last week to run the camp and sports development officer at the club, Colin Hunter, says if the tennis camp takes off during the Easter Break, the club will look to put in more permanent tennis facilities for the summer.

He said: “The tennis is always popular. We usually get somewhere between 20 and 30 kids who come along so we are hoping for the same this year. The run up to the summer and Wimbledon always heightens interest in tennis so that is definitely something we would look to capitalise on if we could and we could maybe set up proper tennis courts by marking them out on pitches that aren’t being used.”

The club is trying to transform its fortunes after it was revealed back in January that it was in the midst of a cash crisis. Since then trustees and staff at the club have been working hard behind the scenes to turn things around and with the help of the community are getting back on track.

Colin added: “It’s been a slow process and we are not there yet but we are in a better place than we were before.”

The tennis camp will run 10am-12.30pm every day between April 9 and 13. There will also be a free multi sports camp running between April 2 -6 and a football camp between 1pm and 3pm from April 2-13.
