An Ardrossan teen is in the running to become Miss Teen Great Britain 2018 – but she needs your votes to succeed.

Courtney Kirk, a sixth-year pupil at Ardrossan Academy, was recently announced as a semi-finalist in the national event.

The 17-year-old now needs your help to make it to the grand finals in Blackpool later in the year.

Courtney told the Herald: “It’s amazing. When I first found out I was so excited, it was just so surreal.

“Everyone’s just been congratulating me. I don’t think they thought I would get to the semi-finals.”

Courtney is well-known in Ayrshire as a talented singer and has performed at numerous local venues and events.

But the teen has never competed in a pageant before and is excited to be taking part in something new.

Courtney said: “I just thought it would be something different, I’ve never really done anything like this.

“I’ve done a bit of modelling for bridal places, but I’ve never done a pageant before.

“This just looks so different and fun.

“All the girls [the other semi-finalists] don’t really come off as very competitive – everyone’s just so supportive, wanting each other to do well.”

If Courtney scoops the Miss Teen GB title, she faces an exciting year ahead of her, making guest appearances at events and taking on charity work.

Winning the title could also provide the teen with modelling opportunities.

Asked how she would feel if she took the title home to North Ayrshire, Courtney said: “I mainly think I’d be really happy because it’s making my mum proud.

“I like making her happy, especially as she is the one who has given me the confidence in myself to enter something like this.”

To help Courtney get to the finals, you need to ‘like’ Miss Teen GB’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/MissTeenGreatBritain/, then go to the album titled ‘2018 Miss Teen GB Semi-Finalists’ and ‘like’ Courtney’s picture.

Voting ends on Tuesday, July 3.
