A FINAL consultation event will be held next week for neighbours and residents of Watt Court sheltered housing in Dalry before major works commence.

North Ayrshire Council’s Housing Services is hosting the event on Tuesday, April 24, which will allow people to meet the builder as well as view and comment on draft plans for 15 new supported accommodation units to the rear of the site.

Work is due to start on the first phase of the development later this month and this will provide 22 new homes within a sheltered housing complex, eight amenity bungalows and a Local Housing Office. The new properties will replace the current sheltered housing complex, providing high quality, accessible homes for older people.

The works will be phased to allow the existing residents to remain in their current homes until their new properties are complete.

The latest proposals include 15 new ‘supported accommodation’ homes, which have been designed with the Health and Social Care Partnership to provide homes for people with complex needs.

Councillor Jim Montgomerie, Cabinet member for Place, said: “Watt Court will be the latest of our sheltered housing complexes to be replaced by a state-of-the-art development.

“In the past few years we have refurbished or redeveloped a number of complexes, including Robert W Service Court in Kilwinning, Montgomery Court in Kilbirnie, Vennel Gardens in Irvine and George Aitken Court, Ardrossan.

“We are also currently on-site developing 28 new sheltered homes at Glencairn House, Stevenston, 36 new sheltered homes at Canal Court, Saltcoats, and refurbishing 22 sheltered homes at Dickson Court in Beith.

“The results of these transformations have been first class and the residents have given us hugely positive feedback on their new surroundings.

“I would like to invite the residents and neighbours of Watt Court to come along and see how the plans are shaping up.”

The ‘drop-in’ consultation event will be held in Dalry Community Centre between 5pm and 7pm on Tuesday, 24 April.

This will give visitors the opportunity to meet the contractor, Ashleigh (Scotland) Limited, and ask questions about the construction work.

Details will also be provided on how disruption will be minimised during the works and proposed external render colour changes will be available.
