A KILBIRNIE couple this week celebrated a landmark anniversary - 75 years of happy marriage.

Bill and Ina Laidlaw are celebrating their Diamond Jubilee after tying the knot 75 years ago in Glengarnock on April 23.

The pair met aged 11 and married when Bill was 17 and Ina was 18, shortly before Bill joined the Army and was called up to fight in World War 2 with the King’s Own Scottish Borderers.

The couple had two children (Sybil, who passed away in 1991, and Gordon, who sees his parents most days) and two grandchildren, Andrea and Corrie. They credit their close family with keeping them together, and say the secret to a successful marriage is a 50/50 partnership.

Congratulations to the couple on this amazing anniversary from everyone at the Herald.
