A drunk man who sneaked into the Kandy Bar in the middle of the night and pinched £75 worth of food has been ordered to carry out unpaid work.

Phillip Felix Ryan returned to Kilmarnock Sheriff Court last week for sentencing, having previously pleaded guilty to one charge.

Sentence had been deferred for two weeks for Ryan to bring £75 to court as compensation to the Saltcoats bakery.

Ryan, of New England Road in Saltcoats, entered the Kandy Bar with another male after finding the rear door unlocked in the early hours of November 29 of last year.

He helped himself from the premises on Hamilton Street, then ordered a taxi to pick him up whilst carrying black bags containing the stolen items.

The theft was caught on the bakery’s CCTV and police were able to identify and subsequently trace 27-year-old Ryan.

Last week at court, solicitor Alex Muir asked Sheriff Shirley Foran to consider placing his client on a Level One Order.

Mr Muir added: “£75 is here and can be paid today.”

Sheriff Foran agreed to place Ryan on a Community Payback Order.

He was ordered to carry out 75 hours of unpaid work in the community.
