A SPRINKLING of excitement fell over Saltcoats on Saturday as the community council held their first ever bake-off event.

Taking place at the Argyle Community Centre, the event was a showcase of some of the best local bakers, young and old, with a real sense of spirit in the air.

Billy Colclough judged the event and said there was a very high standard across all categories.

The adults’ events were judged first and the winners were: Scones; 1st Fiona Garry, 2nd Alison MacMaster and 3rd Juliet Dempster.

The Victoria Sponge category was the most popular with lots of entries and judged the best were;1st Danielle Cowie, 2nd Beverley Duffy and 3rd Fiona Garry.

Most kids entered themselves into both pancakes and cupcake categories and the winners on the day were: Pancakes; 1st Cameron Vint, 2nd Eva Cain and 3rd TeighanPark.

Cupcakes; 1st Eva Cain, 2nd Teighan Park, joint 3rd Hayley McCartney and Rhea Sanghera.

Hazel Haddow, Secretary of Saltcoats Community Council, said: “3TFM played music throughout the day and thank you very much to them. Thanks also to the caretaker at Argyle community centre. And biggest thanks to everyone who entered and also for giving very generous donations. Even if people missed out on a prize this year, we’re hoping it doesn’t put them off for next year!”

£151.35 was raised for charity and SCC decided to give the money to Penumbra Self Harm Project based in Ardrossan.

The next meeting of Saltcoats Community Council will take place on Monday, May 21 at 7pm in Saltcoats Town Hall and this will be their AGM.
