ENVIRONMENTAL charity Keep Scotland Beautiful, has congratulated the efforts of 793 people from North Ayrshire for taking part in the first month of its Clean Up Scotland 2018 Spring Clean.

Across Scotland almost 20,000 people have taken action to remove illegally discarded litter from the places they care about.

Now, as we reach May, communities will have a further opportunity to tackle litter through a national Week of Action targeting roadside litter.

Carole Noble, Operations Director at Keep Scotland Beautiful commented: “With five weeks of our Spring Clean still to go, we’re really pleased to see an 18 per cent increase since this time last year in the number of volunteers who have rolled up their sleeves to take part in cleaning up Scotland.

"793 from North Ayrshire is an unprecedented amount of support and demonstrates the level of public interest and appetite for action on littering and littering behaviour.

“Now, we want to capture this interest and springboard everyone to take even more action to tackle roadside litter during a specific week of action from 12 May. Everyone is invited to take part in a Roadside Litter week of action running from the 12th - 20th May."
