AN Australian family of Ardrossan heritage are trying to trace relatives in North Ayrshire.

Tom Bonar and his wife Jane Fairlie Dalgleish emigrated to Australia just after the Second World War.

Jane was born in Ardrossan in 1930. Her parents were John McLanachan Dalgleish and Ella Kennedy, who was linked to the Knox and Mair families.

Sadly, Jane passed away from polio just two days after giving birth to her and Tom’s second child in 1954.

Tom is still alive and according to his daughter-in-law Julie Bonar, is “still going strong” at the age of 95.

Julie, who is married to Tom and Jane’s son, also called Tom, contacted the Herald from Australia.

She said: “I am researching my husband’s side of the family on his mother’s side.

“My husband lost his mother when he was two-and-a-half and his sister only two-days-old, so he has no recollection of her and as his father remarried when he was seven, his step-mother was hesitant to show the children any photos of their mother.

“It was only when my husband’s step-mother passed away three years ago that he actually was shown a photo of his late mother.

“His father is 95 and in good health and now speaks openly of his first wife. I would love to find close relatives of his. He also had two aunties Margaret Sheina and Irma – both older I think.”

Can you help trace any of the Bonars’ relatives?
