A 21-year-old man is in hospital with a serious injury after he was stabbed by another man in Ardrossan yesterday.

Police Scotland officers are appealing for information following the incident which happened around 6.10pm in Burns Terrace. 

The victim was approached by the man responsible and sustained an injury to his back during the attack. He was able to walk along the street for a short distance before collapsing.

He was taken by ambulance to Crosshouse Hospital where he is currently receiving treatment for the injury and hospital staff describe his condition as being 'serious but stable'. 

The suspect is described as being white, aged in his 20s, about 5'7" in height and wearing grey jogging bottoms and a grey hooded top with the hood up. 

Detective Sergeant Craig Semple is appealing for anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident to come forward. 

He said: "Burns Terrace is a busy residential area and I am keen to speak with anyone who has any information which could help identify the man responsible for the attack on the 21-year-old victim."
