A SALTCOATS takeaway was raided at the weekend by immigration officers acting on intelligence - and now faces a fine of up to £80,000.
Four men were detained by Immigration Enforcement officers after they visited Singh is King, Old Raise Road, Saltcoats around 5.45pm on Saturday, May 12.
Background checks revealed that three Indian men aged 25, 28 and 37 and a 43-year-old Turkish man, had no right to work in the UK.
Two of the Indian men, aged 25 and 28, and the Turkish man must report to Immigration Enforcement while their cases are progressed.
The 37-year-old was found to have entered the country illegally and was detained while steps are taken to remove him from the country.
The business could face a potential financial penalty of up to £80,000 – up to £20,000 per alleged illegal worker - unless the employer can demonstrate that appropriate right-to-work document checks were carried out, such as seeing a passport or Home Office document confirming permission to work.
