THE new North Ayrshire Bowling League kicked-off on Friday with one team taking full advantage of the new scoring system.

Kilwinning BC travelled the short distance to Stevenston to take on Ardeer Rec and managed to win in all five of their rinks to pick up a 3-0 win, thanks to their shot total of +75.

They were the only side to pick up a winning bonus point on the first night but two sides got with in 10 shots when losing to get a losing bonus point. Amongst the best of the rest, current league holders West Kilbride picked up a good away win at Largs Halkshill by 80 shots to 56, Saltcoats picked up a home win against Ardeer by 85 shots to 70 and Ardrossan travelled up the coast to visit Skelmorlie and picked up a victory of 86-70.

They two closest games of the night involved the teams from the Garnock Valley with a real shock coming by way of a Largs victory over Kilbirnie.

The visitors, who are also the cup holders, went down by 78 shots to 76 but can take solace in the fact that they pick up a bonus losing point.

Dalry and Glengarnock, who join forces for the purposes of the league took on Fairlie at Dalry BC and the home side picked up the win by 69 shots to 64.
