A TEACHER has appeared in court charged with sexual assault against schoolgirls.
Cameron Andrew MacKenzie, 48, appeared in private at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Monday to answer to four charges against him.
The Kilwinning resident, a probationary geography teacher at a Three Towns secondary school, made no plea during the short hearing where he was faced with two counts of alleged sexual assault against a young child, one of alleged sexual assault and one allegation of breach of the peace.
MacKenzie was committed for further examination and granted bail.
It is believed he has been suspended pending the outcome of the case.
A spokesperson for North Ayrshire Council said: "As the matter is subject to ongoing court proceedings, it would be inappropriate for the Council to comment.”
He will appear at court again at a later date.
