A LOCAL theatre company has received a boost to the tune of over £3,500.

Capall Dorcha Theatre Company have received £3,609 for local creative and cultural activities and the award will enable them to provide young people with professional development in theatre over an intensive week-long series of workshops, with performance and filmed elements led by arts professionals.

At the end of the week young people will showcase their work in a public arts performance at the Harbour Arts Centre in Irvine.

The CashBack for Creativity Open Fund, administered by YouthLink Scotland and funded by Creative Scotland, has awarded over £25,000 to 32 community-based arts project across the country.

The fund offers a fantastic chance for young people to access a range of high-quality arts, screen and creative industries activities. The programme targets children and young people in communities and areas where there is currently a lack of opportunity.

Barry Robertson of Capall Dorcha Theatre Company welcomed the funding, which will support local arts in the Year of Young People: “Capall Dorcha Theatre Company is delighted to receive this award from Cashback for Creativity. This funding will help support and develop professional artists to work with young people based in Ardrossan to create their theatre performance locally.

“The project was developed by Capall Dorcha’s Youth Board, in which the young people created the event and specified what creative professionals that they would like to work with for a week to create a film and short performance of the project to enhance their skills sets going forward.

“This funding is supporting the social enterprise’s ethos of allowing more young people to take part in cultural theatre arts activities as North Ayrshire has one of the lowest participation rates.”
