A Stevenston community group has launched its first CD to raise money for its popular musical sessions.

Musical Memory Lane is named after Raise Your Voice Ardeer’s Monday afternoon sessions and was recorded at Caley Youth Centre.

The group, part of Centrestage on the Road, officially launched the 16-track album last week in support of its weekly singalongs.

Raise Your Voice Ardeer has so far received almost 100 sales and pre-orders for the CD, with interest in the album from as far as the USA.

Allison McGookin, media secretary at Raise your Voice Ardeer, said: “This is the first time that something like that has been done and we are all very excited about it, especially because copies of the CD have been ordered from as far as America.”

Musical Memory Lane the CD was the brainchild of Kilmarnock musician Richard Ross and features popular songs from Raise Your Voice Ardeer’s afternoon sessions of the same name.

The group meets for a singalong and a cuppa every Monday from 1.30-3pm at Ardeer Community Centre. The sessions are free to attend, so Raise Your Voice Ardeer relies on fundraising to continue running the much-loved get-togethers.

Richard came up with the idea for the CD after seeing the positive impact music had on his mum who was suffering from dementia.

The CD features the talents of Raise Your Voice Ardeer members, Centrestage Gospel and Soul Choir, Ardeer Community Choir, Ardivas, Heart and Soul, and Richard’s group Music People.

Allison said: “There is a whole load of songs on it – 16 tracks and each track has a few songs on, so [there are] about 34, with Richard speaking at times as well.

“The CD is not for sale, it’s a donation people give for it.

“Richard has spent the last few weeks working with the Caley Youth Centre to mix the CD, create the covers and inserts.

“Volunteers from Raise Your Voice Ardeer along with Richard’s Music People have worked extremely hard putting them all together ready for the launch.

“Musical Memory Lane the CD is unique because it’s more realistic to an actual visit. It’s akin to a live concert that people can sing along to.”

Musical Memory Lane is available via 07826 144506 between 9am-5pm or by emailing raiseyourvoiceardeer@gmail.com any time. Cost is by donation.
