THE sun shone on Ardrossan on Saturday as the annual Fete and Fun Day at Winton Park took place.

Clubs, groups and people from every corner of the town and beyond descended on the park to support the community club and keep the event as successful as ever.

Pat Breen, Chairman of Ardrossan Winton Rovers told the Herald: “As a club we’re delighted. I said in my closing speech on Saturday [that] Ardrossan as a community we’re quite honoured and pleased to see the community turn out in force.

“We had the kiddie dancers, the Scooter Club raising money for James McFarlane’s carpet appeal, different organisations raising for their own individual causes, the dog show – there was all sorts there.

“But as a club we’re keen to emphasise that it’s not to do with the football, it’s the community, from kids right up to adults. When I see the joy on the wee kids’ faces it’s really worth it. It was a fantastic day. It’s all about the community coming together and we want to thank them for supporting us.

“I’ve been running it now six/seven years and in all that time we’ve been really fortunate with the weather. I think last year it rained a bit but this year it was a scorcher.

“It’s a very important event in the Three Towns, it’s not just Ardrossan.

“We want to thank everyone – all the families who came along to support us, everyone who was involved, all the organisations. We also had the crowing of the Winton Gala. It was the first official outing of the Gala Court. Their wee faces when they came out in their robes, they were well chuffed.”
