SCOTT Shaw was crowned the first Segdoune King at this year’s Royal Carnival.

His crowning marks a historical event in Kilwinning. Scott Shaw, Lewis Kirk, Olivia Davidson, Grace Cassidy, Olivia Moffat, Bryce Craig, and Eva Carroll were treated to an impressive parade escort to the Crowning Ceremony from Kilwinning Academy to the Main Street stage.

The parade was led by the Irvine and Dreghorn Brass Band followed by the Royal party in an elegant carriage driven by Danny Kerr.

The Royals’ families, retiring Royals, John and Mary Boyd, the official crowners were escorted by a 30+ group of the 2nd Kilwinning Boys Brigade, followed by the impressive members of the Ancient Society of Kilwinning Archers, Kilwinning Academy pupils and members of the Academy Parent Council, elected officials, community council, members of the local Guides, Brownies and Rainbows groups and ending with local pipers Abbey and Katy Roy.

Promoting Kilwinning would like to thank all those who joined the parade and to all the spectators along the parade route and on the Main Street.

On the Main Street there were the usual charity and information stalls. On stage the crowd was treated to a selection of great local entertainment: the Cranberry Moss Singing Group, the fantastic Pammi Quinn, and the Pennyburn P6/7 and P2/3 choirs.

Mary Boyd gave a lovely speech celebrating the talent and spirit of Kilwinning youth encouraging all young people to join groups and develop new skills and interests, especially during 2018: Year of the Young People.
