The stunning new Dalry-based Clyde Coast and Garnock Valley Crematorium is now open and operational.

And the multi-million-pound facility is now offering sunset services

Located within the natural beauty of the Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park, the crematorium is one of the most environmentally advanced in the UK, and will provide a much needed and essential service for local families from across the Garnock Valley and the Clyde Coast.

The building is designed to be bright and inspiring, in stark contrast to the heavy architecture of traditional crematoriums and has been uniquely fitted out with bespoke pieces of furniture designed and crafted by local North Ayrshire suppliers, including Fairlie Furniture.

In another innovation, and to mark the summer solstice this week - sunset services are to be offered over the summer months, giving families the opportunity to hold a truly special service.

Philip Ewing, Manager of the Clyde Coast & Garnock Valley Crematorium said: “The panoramic view through our full-height west-facing picture window when the sun goes down over Arran is absolutely stunning. And, of course, sunsets are metaphors for parting and ending. They seem to add poignancy and meaning to the moment of saying goodbye.

“We believe that we are the first crematorium in the UK to offer this type of service, and it goes without saying that our weather is variable, and sunsets cannot be guaranteed. However, the concept of having services later in the day has been received positively by funeral directors and members of the public.”

“Red sky sunsets happen when high pressure moves from west to east – which it often does over the Clyde coast and Garnock Valley, as our weather comes predominantly from the west. For a perfect sunset you need mid to high level clouds and calm winds.”
