Patricia Gibson MP attended an event to raise awareness for cervical screening.

The event at Ardrossan South Beach Surgery was organised by local activist Suzanne Fernando, herself a survivor of cervical cancer.

Suzanne said: “Every eligible woman and person with a cervix should have the opportunity to attend cervical screening.

“A smear test lasts five minutes. The impact of cervical cancer lasts a lifetime.

“I’ve been campaigning to make that happen.

"I know attending is not always easy and some people find it difficult for many reasons.”

Cervical screening prevents 75 per cent of cervical cancers from developing, yet one in four women do not attend.
