A BUSY West Kilbride road will be closed for nearly two weeks to install new traffic lights and crossing facilities.

As part of Transport Scotland’s strategic road safety programme, Scotland TranServ will install traffic signals with pedestrian crossing facilities on the A78 at Yerton Brae and Fullerton Drive in West Kilbride.

In order to carry out this short programme of work it will be necessary to implement a combination of three-way traffic lights and a full closure of Yerton Brae (B781) from 9am on Monday, July 23 until 6am Friday, August 3.

Vincent Tait, Scotland TranServ’s Road Safety Manager said: “This signal installation has been developed following extensive consultation with the local community and key local stakeholders. It will help to improve pedestrian facilities at this junction for local residents and their families.

“With the nature of this kind of work, it is inevitable that there will be some elements of noise, however we will try to restrict this to daylight hours only, minimising any impact through the night. Lighting will also be required through the night to allow our operatives to carry out their work as quickly and safely as possible.”

Traffic management will be in operation 24 hours a day during this short programme, with local diversions in place. It is their aim to complete works as quickly as possible to keep disruption to a minimum.

Local commuters are also asked to allow additional time for their journeys, with delays of up to 10 minutes forecast during peak periods. Drivers are asked to check @trafficscotland on Twitter and my.trafficscotland.org for updated information.
