THE annual Saltcoats Queen of the Sea Festival took place at the weekend and it was a success - despite the weather.

On Saturday, the parade took in the town with Queen Afton Ceelen and Captain Ciaran Thomson leading the way through to Melbourne Park for the crowning and celebrations.

But organisers were disappointed at the lack of support from the local community and hope the weekend can get back to its best in years to come.

Maria Paterson-Kidd from the committee said: “The Saltcoats community usually turn out and they didn’t this year, it was really disappointing but the kids had a fantastic time and it really is what you make it, we all had a fab time.”

On the Sunday, despite the rain, the patrons who turned out enjoyed live music from Scotland Rocks and the classic cars and scooters that were out too.

The committee wish to pass on thanks to everyone who helped out over both days and say a big thank you to the hairdressers, Jay’s Limos, William Tyre, the Co-op, the Hip Flask, all the children and their families, everyone who turned out and supported the event, the stall holders and vendors, Craig Barrie from Maybole who stepped in last minute to pipe during the parade, West Coast Discos, the Legion, Three Towns Scooter Club, all the shops for donating prizes for the tombola, Patricia Gibson MP and Councillors Davina McTiernan and Jean McClung.

Congratulations to Sea Queen -Afton Ceelen, Captain - Ciaran Thomson, Ladies in waiting - Mollie Lafferty, Skye Martin and Amy Scott, Buccaneers - Callum McGoldrick, Leo Smith and Alistair Rolinson and Crown Bearer - Paris McGhee.
