Garnock Valley Men’s Shed has successfully secured a £4,000 grant following an online vote by members of the public.

They won the Jewson’s Building Better Communities grant thanks to a public vote The grant will go towards making the shed’s Kilbirnie premises up to a standard that is safe and secure for all members.

David Gardner, the shed’s treasurer and vice chairman, and Stewart Beck from North Ayrshire Council, collected the reward from George Clarke on behalf of Jewson David said: “It will make a big difference as it now gives us access to the building materials that we need to improve the Shed plus will also allow us to make products for sale thereby producing much needed income.

“We would like to thank you, the Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald, and of course all of your readers who voted for us.”

Stewart Beck, who is the community worker at Garnock Valley Men’s Shed, also said: "It feels fantastic. The £4,000 we've won will go a long, long way to making a difference in our project.

"This isn't just a shed, it's a men's health project and will form a free workshop space for people to come along to build or repair things or practice hobbies. It's going to be a great project."

George Clarke added: “It’s community projects like Garnock Valley Men’s Shed which help bring people closer together and Jewson does great work in supporting them with Building Better Communities.

"This competition is a fantastic idea and it’s always great to see so many happy faces at the awards presentation.
