TV presenter and naturalist Chris Packham visited Stevenston Beach recently as part of a UK campaign investigating the extent to which the nation’s wildlife species are under threat.

The Bioblitz campaign, the first audit of its kind in the UK, aims to meet and raise money for the local projects working on the conservation of wildlife habitats.

Chris spoke to members of the community and wildlife activists at the town’s Local Nature Reserve on Sunday, July 15.

The event was supported by by the Where’s Wildlife in Ayrshire? Project and FRIENDS.

Chris said: “I need to see it for myself. I need to meet the people with their fingers on the pulse of our wildlife the length and breadth of the UK, those unsung heroes, the great British naturalists who know their stuff and are making a difference.”

Helen Embleton, Where’s Wildlife in Ayrshire? Project Officer, added: “Unfortunately, our wildlife in Ayrshire has been very under recorded over the years.

"We hope that events like this will encourage everyone to become more aware of their own local wildlife and record what they see, wherever they are.

"Recording is vital in helping to measure changes in our wildlife and inform action that may be required.”
